Date: November 2, 2008

Purpose

The purpose of TheCall San Diego was to re-dig the wells of revival in California, to repent of immorality in the state, and to support traditional marriage through the upholding of Proposition 8, which defined marriage as between a man and a woman.

Summary

In 1946, in San Diego, Franklin Hall wrote the book Atomic Power with God Through Fasting and Prayer. Thousands were stirred to pray. This led to great healing revivals the following year: the campus revivals with Bill Bright and the Hollywood revivals in 1948 with Billy Graham. This outpouring went global in 1948. It was time to fan those flames of revival again from the birthplace of that historic book.
In May 2007, the California State Legislature passed Bill 777 that mandated the teaching of homosexual, bisexual, and transgender lifestyles in public schools.
Furthermore, the California Supreme Court had disregarded the previous votes of its citizens and legalized homosexual marriage. At that time the mayor of San Francisco boasted, “As California goes, so goes the rest of this nation. It’s inevitable. This door is wide open. It’s going to happen whether you like it or not. This is the future and it’s now.” Despite this, Proposition 8 was drafted to amend the state constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman.
On November 1st, three days before the vote on Prop 8, TheCall San Diego was held in Qualcomm Stadium. This was to be a Mount Carmel moment, an Elijah & Jezebel showdown, to defeat this demonic assault on marriage. About 35,000 assembled to fast and pray.
On November 4th, 2008, Proposition 8 passed. Christian leaders James Dobson and Jim Garlow said publicly that they believed the prayers from TheCall San Diego directly caused this victory. On May 26th, 2009, the California Supreme Court upheld the passage of Prop 8 in the face of legal challenges.
