Day 17 - Inoculated with Resurrection Power The story is told of Louis Pasteur, the famous French scientist who was the inventor of many things, one of them being the rabies vaccine. He lived at a time when thousands of people were dying of rabies. Pasteur had just developed the vaccine and was about to try it on himself when a mother brought in her son who was dying of this dreaded disease. Pasteur opted instead to try it on the young lad for 10 days. The 9-year-old boy, Joseph Meister, was miraculously cured and lived. Louis Pasteur went on to have several other inventions that were very noteworthy and greatly contributed to society. When he died, of all the things he could have placed on his epitaph, Pasteur requested only three words: Joseph Meister lived. Our greatest legacy will be those who live eternally because of our efforts. May we truly be God’s covenantal friends, and through this cause a generation of dry bones to realize their God-given destinies, inoculated with the resurrected power of Almighty God. When history books mention us, let it be said that we were a Josiah generation of prophetic voices who connected with our fathers and reformed a nation. May it be said that when everyone else saw hopeless dry bones, we saw an army and, like Ezekiel, prophesied life to our generation. On our memorial stones let our epitaph read: The dry bones lived. Dutch Sheets, 10/12/2008 Day 16 - Let it Rain Dutch Sheets Biblical standards of morality are no longer accepted in America. We actually allow homosexual “marriages” and “families.” We pass out condoms to high school students, after teaching them about sex. Purity is mocked; immorality is lauded. The result? More than 40 percent of teenage girls get pregnant before reaching the age of 20. That’s double the rate in England and 10 times that in the Netherlands. Sixty-six percent of students report having sex before leaving high school, and 25 percent of those sexually active teenagers contract a sexually transmitted disease. Many scientists, no longer hesitant to teach theory as fact, tell us we’re made in the image of monkeys rather than God and are against even the sharing of biblical perspectives. No wonder life is cheap in America and we experiment on aborted babies, nonchalantly referring to them as ‘fetal tissue.’ Taking babies from the womb to the dumpster is now a deplorably shocking part of American history. But this can change! I refuse to give this nation to the humanists, atheists, and liberal politicians—those morally bankrupt individuals who want God and the Bible out of America. Though much ground has been lost to them, it is not too late. This is not their land, it is God’s and ours! ‘The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof” (Psalms 24:1, KJV). A newspaper story out of Iowa a few years ago told of an amazing thing that happened in a storm. An awful bolt of lightening produced a loud rumble that activated the chimes in a church steeple. For the next several minutes, while the lightening flashed and the thunder rolled, the chimes rang out a beautiful song, “How Great Thou Art.” Our great God is about to send a rain of His Spirit to the parched land of America! Dutch Sheets, 10/12/2008 Facedown40 - Day 15 God's Co-Workers One of John Wesley’s disciples was William Wilberforce. At first, he thought he would go into the clergy, but he was led to go into politics. God needs altar builders in every area of life. With the passion and support of Wesley, his spiritual father, Wilberforce used the power of God to change society in England and end slavery there. Wilberforce was greatly influenced by Wesley, who was then 88 and close to dying. Wesley’s last written communication was to Wilberforce: Unless God has raised you up for this very thing, you will be worn out by the opposition of men and devils, but if God be for you who can be against you? Are all of them together stronger than God? Oh, be not weary of well doing. Go on in the name of God, and in the power of His might, till even American slavery, the vilest that ever saw the sun, shall vanish away before it. That He that has guided you from your youth may continue to strengthen you in this and all things, is the prayer of, Dear Sir, Your affectionate servant, John Wesley. A few days later, Wesley died, giving to Wilberforce his mantle for revival that would end slavery in England. Slavery was ended in Britain by 1833, throughout the empire, and that began to stir the debate about slavery in the southern part of America.” Can abortion end in America? Yes, if God can find a generation of Wilberforce’s. God chose, from the time of the Creation, to work on earth through humans, not independent of them. He always has and always will, even at the cost of becoming one. Though God is sovereign and all-powerful, Scripture clearly tells us that He limited Himself, concerning the affairs of earth, to working through human beings. Dutch Sheets, 10/10/2008 Day 14 - Father Nash Having experienced a terrible overhaul of his own spiritual experience, Nash, Finney’s intercessor, emerged from a cold and backslidden condition to faithfully labor for souls, full of the power of prayer. He prayed daily – often many times a day – for those whom he was led to place on his list, frequently literally in agony for them. Multitudes were thus converted, many of them hardened, abandoned characters who could not be reached in any ordinary way. One such example involved a bartender violently opposed to revival meetings who would deliberately swear outrageously whenever Christians were within hearing. It was so bad that some of his neighbors considered moving because they could not tolerate such swearing. When Father Nash heard of this situation, he became very grieved and took this man on in prayer. Day and night he labored in prayer for this ungodly bartender. Several days later, the tavern keeper came to a meeting, confessed his sins and came to Christ. His confession was one of the most heartbroken Finney and Nash had ever heard and seemed to cover the whole ground of his treatment of God, Christians, revival, and everything good. His barroom immediately became the place where prayer meetings were held. Can bars, mosques, crack houses or other sin-dens become prayer rooms in our day? Can vulgar God-haters, drug dealers, porn-peddlers and others of ill repute become passionate followers of Christ? Only if we find the “Father Nashes” of our day – those who refuse to accept status quo and through fervent and agonizing prayer bring the will of Heaven to earth. Dutch Sheets, 10/7/2008 Facedown40 - Day 13 - The 40 Year Turnaround by Dutch Sheets Haggai was written during a season when God's purposes were not being fulfilled in Israel. The nation had just come through a period of judgment known as the Babylonian Captivity, and was moving into restoration. The Medo-Persian king, Cyrus, had issued a decree allowing the Jews to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the Temple. This account can be found in Ezra, chapters 1-3. Because of opposition from neighboring peoples, however, work on the Temple stopped for 16 years (see Ezra 4:4-5). God then raised up the prophets Haggai and Zechariah to bring a word of rebuke, correction and challenge to re-start the project. The Israelites were told that the reason for their lack of blessing and provision was because they had abandoned God's project for their own (see Haggai 1:1-11). They responded by repenting and renewing their efforts, thereby ending this 16 year delay. Based upon their response, the prophet Haggai then gave a wonderful prophecy about how God was going to bless them and the project, ending the word with this great verse in Haggai 2:9: ‘The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former,' says the LORD of hosts, 'and in this place I will give peace,' declares the LORD of hosts’(NAS). This is not just a promise for those Israelites, however, but is a timeless principle in God. His plan and desire is always that we go from glory to glory (see 2 Corinthians 3:18), faith to faith (see Romans 1:17) and that the latter is always greater than the former. Our redemptive and restorative God is ready to reverse the 40 year downward spiral of spiritual death in America and take us to levels of glory we’ve never before seen. That’s what these 40 days are all about. It’s what The Call is all about. Persevere! It’s gonna be worth it. Dutch Sheets, 10/7/2008 Day 12 History Making Friends of God Abraham, spoken of in Scripture as a ‘friend of God’ (see 2 Chronicles 20:7; Is. 41:8; James 2:23), was a powerful intercessor and the first one mentioned in the Bible. He wasn’t God’s friend because he was an intercessor; he was an intercessor because he was God’s friend. The difference may be subtle, but I assure you it isn’t small. He was quite bold in his intercession, by the way, asking God questions like, ‘Shall not the judge of all the earth do right?’(see Genesis 18:25). Intimate relationships produce this kind of boldness; not an arrogant irreverence, but a confident boldness that eliminates the fear of rejection or being misunderstood. When I need a favor, I ask a friend or family member, not a stranger. If it’s in that person’s power to help me, he or she does. God wants us to be on such intimate terms with Him that it produces bold, confident and effective intercession. I desperately desire that you would experience this type of intimacy in your relationship with God. And the interceding friends of God become history makers. I have been smitten by this thought: We can either watch history being made, or we can make it. A few years ago on my birthday, a friend gave me a beautiful pen inscribed with the words ‘History Maker.’ Will I really become one? We’ll know in 20 or 30 years. But I can assure you of one thing - I’m going to spend my life investing in the process. Being a history makes sometimes results in the sacrifice of our time, money, and comforts in order to respond to the invitations God gives us. A halfhearted reply or no response to our epoch-making opportunity can also be costly. Let’s not make that mistake. Winston Churchill once said, “I’m not afraid of what history will say about me, because I intend to write it.” That’s my position – how about you? Dutch Sheets, 10/5/2008 Day 11 - No Toleration!! “I suspect I’ve got more in common with Jezebel and Ahab than with Elijah. I’m working to build a tolerant, pluralistic society that respects other faith traditions. I’ve devoted ten years of my life to calling the church to repentance and transformation, on account of its homophobia and heterosexism, its narrowness and its prejudice. I don’t have any sympathy for the austere Yahwehism of the prophet Elijah and his quick to kill and “throw to the dogs” invocation of judgment and divine retribution. Elijah would have stoned me without a second thought. Jezebel was an enlightened woman – I reckon she’d give the likes of me a fair go.” Dr. David Bromell Pentecost Sunday Sermon, 1998. Methodist Mission Church, Christchurch. “Behold I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord. And he will restore the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers lest I come and smite the land with a curse.” (Malachi 4:5-6) “Nevertheless, I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel who calls herself a prophetess. She leads and teaches my bondservants astray so that they commit acts of immorality. I gave her time to repent and she does not want to repent of her immorality. Behold I will cast her upon a bed of sickness and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation unless they repent of her deeds. And I will kill her children with the plague and all the churches will know that I AM HE who searches the minds and hearts and I will give to each one of you according to your deeds.” (Jesus Christ, Ruler of the kings of the earth and Husband of a pure bride, Rev 2:20-23) My young friend had a dream that he was about to be married to a well known seductive entertainer. She knew she had him wrapped around her finger. Her powerful spell of seduction began to take control of him. Suddenly he came to his senses. “I know who you are! You are Jezebel!” he shouted out in the dream. The demonic spell was broken. This dream changed this young man’s life forever. He repented from a love for the world and now stands as a holy testimony for God, even as he works in the midst of Hollywood’s seductive entertainment culture. America as a nation must come to such an awakening as this young man. As it is in America today, so it was in Israel in the days of King Ahab. Elijah was determined to turn back the nation to God and his message was for repentance from compromise with the spirit of Jezebel. “How long will you halt between two opinions. If Baal is God serve him, but if God is God, serve Him.” Summed up, Elijah’s revolutionary challenge to his nation was, “NO TOLERATION!” The same command of God can be heard 2000 years later where the spirit of Jezebel is exposed in the Church at Thyatira. Jesus dictates a strongly worded letter to them: “To the angel of the church in Thyatira write: These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze. I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first. Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess…” (Rev 2:18-20) In the midst of a church tolerating sexual laxity and promoting a casual approach to sin, God says, “I have this against you, you tolerate the woman Jezebel who seduces my bondservants into sexual immorality.” “..the eternal Word specifically described Himself as “He who searches the minds and hearts” (Rev 2:23), for it is in the inner sanctuary of our private soul-life where tolerance to Jezebel begins. It is here, within us, where tolerance must end… This spirit was sitting in the church in Thyatira when it was exposed by the Holy Spirit nineteen hundred years ago. It still has its favorite seat in church. There are respectable men who love God and who seek to serve Him, yet secretly in their hearts are prisoners of Jezebel. Even now, they are deeply ashamed of their bondage to pornography, and they can barely control their desires for women. Ask them to pray and their spirits are awash with guilt and shame. Their prayers are but the whimpers of Jezebel’s eunuchs.” (The Jezebel Spirit by Francis Frangipane) We all know the story of Jezebel perched in the window with her make-up on, trying one last time to seduce her way out of judgment. (2 Kings 9:30) Jehu looks up at her in the window and commands her eunuch attendants to throw her down! Hundreds of years later, Jesus said that the eyes are the windows of the soul. If someone were to gaze into your eyes, what would they see? Would they see Jezebel and her seductive compromises enthroned there? “Or would they see the burning One with pure blazing eyes of fire and feet burnished with bronze?” (Judah Smith) This is the New Testament description of Jesus when He comes to confront the sexual compromise in the church. “I will set no vile thing before my eyes.”(Psalm 101:3) “Death has climbed in through our windows… it has cut off our children from the streets.” (Jeremiah 9:21) Our eye windows are particularly vulnerable in this age of technology. We are flooded with images. Most of us take this for granted as a part of daily life, yet we forget that until little more than a century ago, photographs did not even exist and the only visual images people ever saw were those drawn or painted by artists. This severely limited the amount of visual information a person had to process. It also meant that the tide of pornography as we know it today was unthinkable back then. As a generation that has been born in this climate, we hardly even notice the vile thing it is! I am preaching to myself as well as to those who read. The pastors and leaders of this nation are being called to be the first to repent. “Then he said to me, son of man do you see what the elders of the house of Israel are committing in the dark, each man in the room of his own carved images.” (Ezekiel 8:12) If God were to dig in the dark room of our own imaginations what photographs would he see there? I urge you, in the fear of God, to examine your “windows.” What have you been watching? Are you irresistibly drawn to those sites on the Internet that are perverse and defiling? Are you addicted to pornography? Have you been seduced by entertainment and computer games? Let me ask you, “What’s in your imaginations?” The spirit of Jezebel works in the imaginations. Don’t say, “Oh, I can handle this.” Listen, if you let that seed get in your heart, it will kill your prophetic fire with its little compromises. Pornography is toleration. Homosexuality and fornication are toleration. Books, magazines and movies that allure our hearts away from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ are all tolerations. Rebellion toward parents and leaders are toleration. Is this struggle going on in your soul? God wants to set us free! Go and see your pastor or someone in leadership today and confess your sins if you are in bondage to these things. Thank God for his mercy for if God counted sin, then who could stand? I boast alone in the great mercies of God. And may God show mercy to this nation. “Jezebel’s worst enemies are the prophets; her worst fear is that the people will embrace repentance. Jezebel hates repentance.” (Jezebel Spirit, By Francis Frangipane) In a culture saturated with sexual sin, Elijah strides onto the stage of history and confronts Jezebel only to find himself under her very spell. On a 40-day fast he breaks the power of that spell and unleashes a new generation of leaders to end her vile reign. If Elijah is coming again before the great and terrible day of the Lord, then we know that Jezebel is coming as well. The 40-day fast is the mighty weapon to break her spell of addictions, sexual bondage, mental torment, suicidal thoughts, disorders and diseases. What would happen in America and the nations if tens of thousands of fathers and mothers, the Elijahs of today, fasted for 40 days intensely repenting and cleansing themselves of inward toleration of sexual immorality, addiction to entertainment and spiritual apathy? What if these parents prayed for their children for 40 days to break off rebellion and release revelation of the Lord into their hearts? What if a young generation of Elishas fasted for 40 days to be cleansed from lust, TV addictions, pornography, spiritual mediocrity, and rebellion toward their parents believing that a double portion of the Holy Spirit will rest on their lives? What would happen if tens of thousands would pray Song of Solomon 8:6? “Lord, put your fiery love as a seal over my heart, capture me with your vehement flame of love, a love stronger than the flames of lust. Send this fiery love over a whole generation, a love that many waters cannot overflow.” This is the Lord’s answer! The earth will experience spiritual convulsions, the powers of darkness will tremble and the children of God will break forth with freedom and a great light of spiritual awakening will dawn all over the earth. Lord, right now I release Elijah’s 40-day fast for freedom and deliverance. And may there be a shout in the nations, “No Toleration!” In Jesus’ name, Amen. Day 10 Every dynamic new force for change is undergirded by rigorous disciplines. The slack decadence of culture-Christianity cannot produce athletes of the spirit. Those who are the bearers of tomorrow undergo what others might call disciplines, but not to punish themselves to God. They simply do what is necessary to stay spiritually alive, just as they eat food and drink water. Engaging the Powers, Walter Wink p. 261 “Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” - Matthew 4:4 Fasting: 1.  Act of non-conformity in the face of a matrix glutted with worldly pleasures. 2.  Act of spiritual defiance to the mighty tidal waters of godless enculturation. 3.  Weapon of the weak to resist the power of the strong. 4.  Statement to soul and body by the spirit that demands, “You will not dominate me.” 5.  Weapon of the weak that deals with the true source of injustice, the unseen powers that govern kings and rulers. 6.  Fasting does in the spiritual realm what a hunger strike does in the natural realm. It states, “I will not go your way, even unto death.” It is an appeal to a higher court of justice. 7.  Fasting is the God ordained mean to seek with all your heart, to return to God with all your heart as in Joel 2. 8.  Fasting is a God ordained means of cleansing the image of the matrix off the lenses of your mind; it prepares your spirit to receive new light images from heaven. The image of Christ is more readily beheld and imprinted. 9.  Fasting curbs the appétit of the flesh while intensifying the appetites of the spirit. Man shall not live by bread alone. 10.  Dreams come where there are many thought and cares, bombarded with images. Fasting prepares the heart to receive images (dreams) from heaven. 11.  Fasting is a sort of spiritual detox. It is a cleansing of the soul from deadening poison, giving the addict a new lease on life. “Fasting begets prophets and strengthens strong men. Fasting makes lawgivers wise. It is the souls safeguard, the bodies trusted comrade, the armor of the champion, the training of the athlete.” - Basil of Caesarea Lou Engle, 10/5/2008 Day 9 Yesterday we wrote concerning the power of 40-day fasting in the defeat of the spirit of Minerva in California. We referred to a book by Dick Bernal. Amazingly, we just received this email: To whom it may concern I hope this letter will help cause many to be set free! In 1993 my Pastor Mike in Seattle Washington gave me a book that spoke on the spirit of Minerva, The person that stands on the California seal it looks both male and female. A Pastor named Dick Bernal from Jubilee Christian Center in California wrote and said, the way for this strong hold to be removed was to fast 40 days and 40 nights. Then God told me to fast and pray for my brother Randolph who was at the time struggling with the homosexual life style. Although, I was living in Seattle and he was in the San Francisco Bay Area I knew there was no time or space in God. I knew that Sacrifice Releases Spiritual Power. On the last night of the fast my brother called me and said that while he was in bed a bright light came into his body and delivered him from homosexuality and Christian science. I have prayed for many years now that other people would fast and pray for people to become free from the homosexual life style too! My name is Randolph Jaeger this is my testimony. At 12:00 midnight while I was in my bed I experienced a bright light coming into my body right then suddenly I was delivered from the homosexual life style in which I was struggling. I called my sister Elaine in Seattle, Washington who I knew was mighty in the Lord and spoke often about Jesus. I knew she would know what happened to me. She told me the Lord told her to fast and pray for 40 days and 40 nights for me and that I would be free of my struggles of homosexuality at the end of the fast. I told her that I feel free, different, and cleaner and now God has renewed my mind. This to me is extraordinary! After Jesus’ 40-day fast, Matthew declares, “Those who sat in the valley of the shadow of death have seen a great light.” I believe this testimony is a confirming word of the power of Jesus’ fast to encourage us that if thousands of us will pray for friends and relatives bound in sexual addictions in this 40-day season of prayer and fasting a great light could explode all across California and the nation. Lets believe for the deliverance of the homosexual with a mighty demonstration of God’s love and power. Prayer: Lord I thank you that you went about doing good and healing all who are oppressed of the devil. We pray for the healing deliverance ministry of Jesus to break out in this season of fasting. What you did in San Diego in 1946, release it again in California. Let a great light of revival be released. Hold back the powers of darkness and uphold marriage. God I pray gather thousands to unite in solemn assembly in San Diego on November 1st to pray for a mighty breakthrough for California and the nation. In Jesus name. Amen. Day 8 In 1999, an intercessor saw herself in a dream with a woman dressed for war in Roman armor seated on a body of water heaping up huge waves. People swimming in the water could not make it to their destinations because of the waves. Then an angel appeared to the sister in the dream and declared, “The only thing that can break the power of this spirit is forty days of fasting.” The intercessor queried, “Like Jesus’ fast?” The angel came back immediately, “Like Jesus!” When I heard the dream, I instantly recognized the Roman goddess Minerva; she’s on the state seal of California! The next day, drawn to a shelf of books that I hadn’t looked at for years, I picked out Dick Bernal’s “Storming the Brazen Gates.” Amazingly, I turned right to a picture of the state seal of California with Minerva seated there on the waters of San Francisco Bay. Obviously I began to read. This goddess, the Roman counterpart to the Greek Athena, was the goddess of war (who especially targeted men); protector of the city; and goddess of the arts, the universities and commerce. Could this be the controlling spirit of California, influencing our institutions of Hollywood (arts), our universities (wisdom), and the Silicon Valley (wealth)? In response to that dream, in 2002, we were gearing up for a 40-day fast for all of California that would take place between the two California Calls. I flew into San Francisco (from the Call Korea where 45,000 Korean youth fasted, repented and cried to God for spiritual awakening) to help mobilize for The Call San Francisco. The Lord was soon to hammer me with a personal invitation to fast. While in San Francisco, I met Dick Bernal. I was moved to hear this man’s heart. The vision of the dream lit my soul on fire and the spirit was moving me to desire this fast. I wanted breakthrough for California and I didn’t want to wait until 2003. However, being accustomed to fasting on juice and never having fasted forty days on water “like Jesus,” a fear of dying came over me. The Lord began to probe me: “Do you love California enough to risk it?” I cried out to God for permission to go for it, only asking for a sign of confirmation. There in San Francisco I began the fast. On the morning of my fiftieth birthday, now at home in Pasadena, I met with a young man, who is married to the woman who received the Minerva dream. Neither of them knew about the fast I had already begun and the young man relayed to me that the day before, his wife was given another significant dream. In it, a woman appeared saying, “Lou is fasting the fast you dreamed about three years ago.” The young man’s wife asked, “Do you mean like Jesus fasted on water?” The woman replied, “He thinks he will die, but he will not die.” I was staggered at the dream. Could this be the time for California? I knew Jesus was inviting me to take part in his own fast for apostolic breakthrough. Every day in that fast I prayed, “God cleanse me from any inward toleration of Jezebel and declared the victory of the cross over the spirit of Jezebel in California.” In Revelation 2, Jesus declares, “I have this against you, you tolerate that woman Jezebel who teaches and seduces my bondservants into sexual immorality.” California is massively influenced by this spirit and exports its immorality to the whole world through media. On the 31st day while preaching in San Diego where in the late ’40s and early ’50s, thousands of saints beginning in San Diego and sweeping up the coast had entered into deep extended-consecration water fasts, ushering in the healing revivals, the Hollywood revivals of Henrietta Mears, the evangelistic revivals of Bill Bright and Billy Graham and other Pentecostal outpourings of the Holy Spirit. That night in a San Diego hotel I had a profound dream encounter. In the dream I was flying over the state of California roaring the victory of the cross over Jezebel. I woke up under the spirit of prayer and joy filled faith. I knew something had broken. A few months later in 2003 we held TheCall Los Angeles where 30,000 gathered together to fast and pray. Their we called thousands of Californians into a 40-day fast for the state culminating in TheCall San Francisco where 40,000 gathered to pray and fast. Just prior to TheCall SF a young man whom I didn’t know came up to me and said I had a dream. In the dream I saw a huge stadium filled and in the stadium was a platform where kings declared the word of the Lord. He then told me that he saw me standing on that platform declaring the word and in the stands was California’s governor Gray Davis. He didn’t want to but he had to submit to every word I was speaking. Right after TheCall San Francisco began the recall and Gray Davis was removed from office. Could it be that the church of California in 40-days of fasting and two stadium gatherings shook the throne of a governor that was passing every liberal bill? Then prior to the elections of 2004 while preaching in San Francisco in a Black American Church on the Elijah v. Jezebel showdown over the homosexual agenda, a tall white man came in and sat in the front row. At the end of my message the pastor said, “the newly elected mayor of San Francisco, Gavin Newsom, has come here today.” The pastor asked me to pray for him and agitated by the spirit I prayed something to this effect. “Lord I think you that all government is derived from your government, therefore let this man know that he will be held accountable for everything he does in this city under the government of God.” A couple weeks later that mayor began to marry the homosexuals against California Law. Now four years later, he has been in the headlines of the news.
